Yellow Cab celebrates 20 years in Austin
Local cab company gives “presents” on its birthday to SafePlace
AUSTIN (April 11, 2005) -- Think it’s odd to give presents on your birthday instead of receiving them? Yellow Cab Austin doesn’t seem to think so! The cab company will celebrate 20 years in the Hill Country this month by donating 100 $25 TaxiCards™ to SafePlace, which provides a safe place for women, children and men who have been victimized by rape, sexual abuse and domestic violence. The donation will take place on Tuesday, April 12, at SafePlace’s headquarters, located at 1515 Grove Blvd.
“Yellow Cab has been privileged to successfully fill the Austin community’s transportation needs for 20 years,” said Jim Connolly, president and general manager of Yellow Cab Austin. “Therefore, we want to take our service a step further by helping those who cannot afford transportation when caught in unfortunate circumstances.”
Transportation for victims of domestic violence is vital and Yellow Cab’s $2,500 in-kind donation will help provide essential transportation services for those in need. SafePlace helps Austin women, children and men who have been harmed by violence. With partners throughout the community, SafePlace helps survivors heal and work towards preventing future violence.
“Safe transportation to the shelter is a crucial element in safety planning and allows transitioning families’ peace of mind,” said Gail Rice, SafePlace Community Advocacy Director.
