Austin (April 18, 2008) Yellow Cab, Austin’s largest and most modern taxi fleet, is a proud sponsor of the new Austin Aztex soccer team. The Austin Aztex is Austin’s only professional soccer franchise. Home games will be held at Round Rock High School’s Dragon Stadium.
“We are excited to welcome professional soccer to the greater Austin area,” said Yellow Cab General Manager Edward Kargbo. “No other sport crosses so many cultural boundaries, and it’s no surprise that it is the fastest growing team sport in the United States.”
The Austin Aztex U23 team (formerly the Austin Stampede) will compete in the USL Mid South Division PDL play in 2008. The new club will play in the United Soccer Leagues (USL) First Division beginning in the 2009 season. The Aztex will play host to teams from all across North America, including Montreal, Atlanta, Minnesota, Vancouver and Miami.
As part of its sponsorship, Yellow Cab will provide advertising for the Austin Aztex on the back of 45 taxis through July 1, 2008. Yellow Cab will also donate to Austin Sunshine Camps, a nonprofit organization that provides life skills and leadership programs to at-risk and disadvantaged children, 40 tickets to the July 27th home game against the Laredo Heat.
