Yellow Cab merges with Roy’s Taxi
Taxi riders enjoy improved service throughout Austin

Austin, TX (August 8, 2006) Yellow Cab has merged with Roy’s Taxi, a move approved by Austin City Council on June 8.

Roy’s Taxi celebrated its 75^th anniversary in April 2006. Roy Velasquez established the company in 1931 using a borrowed $5 as capital. During a time when many companies determined service boundaries along racial lines, Roy’s Taxi broke ground by welcoming riders and drivers of all ethnicities.

“We look forward to combining the rich history of Roy's Taxi with the state of the art technology offered by Yellow Cab,” said Bobby Velasquez, one of five brothers who operated Roy’s Taxi in recent years.  “Riders all over Greater Austin will have access to one of the best taxi fleets in the nation.”

Yellow Cab was established in Austin in 1985. During its 21 years in business, the company has maintained its position as an innovative industry leader. Yellow Cab uses an automated call taking system and a sophisticated computer dispatch system that matches each call with the closest available cab. The well-maintained fleet consists of late model sedans and minivans, along with wheelchair accessible vans.  Bilingual drivers are available upon request.

Yellow Cab President Jim Connolly says the merger means improved service for Austin-area taxi riders.  “There’s a tremendous demand for the service we provide and sometimes we have been unable to answer every request for service,” he said.  “With the increased number of drivers, we will be better able to serve the city’s taxi riders.”
